Sally Zigmond is a long-time friend of this blog so I was more than happy to take a look at this, her first full-length novel, especially as it is published by Myrmidon who are one of the most consistently interesting publishers in the country.
Sally did warn me that this wouldn't be my normal cup of tea and, as the cover suggests, I am not the target market. All of which is true but I know a good yarn when I read one. And this is one.
At the dawn of the Victorian age two sisters fall out when the pub they run is sold to make way for the new railway. Se begins an epic 500 page saga set in Harrogate, Leeds and Paris.
Zigmond has created a compelling historical novel that I am sure will be a big hit in the North East, and hopefully everywhere else as well.
Will I read on? It isn't quite at the top of my pile but I enjoyed what I read. A friend has borrowed it from me so it depends on whether I get it back or not.
Hope Against Hope
by Sally Zigmond is out in April from Myrmidon Books.
Sally is a friend of mine too, and a very good writer: I'm looking forward to buying a copy of this for myself when it's published.

I've had this on order for what seems like forever. Am looking forward to finally reading it. Your use of the words 'epic' and 'saga' makes me expect I'll need to buy a second copy for my mum.
