We went on a family trip to London on Saturday. Mrs Big Mouth took Martha to see Oliver!. Me and Ethan just sort of wandered around. We ended up at the National Portrait Gallery where both of us were blown away by this painting.
It is called iDeath by Czech artist Michal Ozibko. It is a painting, not a photograph, and it is over two metres tall. It is quite stunning.
It was an entry for the BP Portrait Award 2010. It didn't win despite being the most remarkable thing there. The exhibition carries on till mid-September so do go and have a butcher's if you can.
I will be popping back for a gawp, although we did buy an A3 print which we are in the process of persuading Mrs Big Mouth to allow us to hang in the house, so I can technically gawp at it whenever I want.
Yes. Absolute agreement! iDeath is best painting on BP portrait award. I love it!

You are clearly a person of taste. You are welcome back any time.

I have always wondered about the point of super-realism as such art is called. Impressive certainly in terms of technique and ability, but why? I can do the same with my mobile and have no technique though an abundance of ability, obviously.
