How The Light Gets In

200x200Quite remarkably, I have been asked to appear at the How The Light Gets In music and philosophy festival which takes place at Hay in June.

I will be on the panel for two discussions on June 7th.

Authors in the Age of Celebrity

Scott Pack, Lars Iyer, Elaine Feinstein. Gabriel Gbadamosi chairs.

Reports of the death of the author have been greatly exaggerated. They’re back, and they’re in the news, with fans queuing round the block at signings. Do punditry and promotion make writing a viable profession or distract from the business of writing? Should writers be read but not seen?

In an age of self publishing and writers' workshops, the idea that we all have a novel inside of us has become commonplace. But how essential is writing to individuality? Has the internet facilitated one of our most deep-rooted desires, or has it opened up the false hope of a readership, a performance without meaning?

Feel free to pop along. I hope to be around for most of the day and possibly the night before so shout if you are going to be there and perhaps we could meet up for a cup of tea.
