I want to alert you to an iPad app that is free for a limited time only (I think it goes back £2.99 on Monday but it might be free for a little bit longer). I downloaded it yesterday and the kids have already had a go and given it a big thumbs up. The author is a friend so I had to show willing but we all ended up really enjoying it.
It is called The Lost Journal and is an interactive story for young adults (or older adults, if you like a good yarn) from Susie Cornfield, the author of Black Light and Green Fire
. The Lost Journal is effectively a prequel to those books but works as a standalone story, you don't need to have read the novels to understand and enjoy the app.
Essentially it is a story that you can read on screen but every few pages there is an interactive illustration - by tilting, pressing, pointing or swiping you can reveal different goodies. There is also a puzzle to solve that involves a secret code that unlocks even more content.
It is a great story and playing around with the app is a lot of fun - imagine a grittier, darker version of the Alice in Wonderland app. It won't be free for long so do check it out today if you can.
The novels are set in a slightly alternative near-future where a group of kids are acting as eco-terrorists trying to stop the government's evil plans. If you like the app then you will almost certainly like the books.
You can find more info on the app here, or just search The Lost Journal at the App Store.
UPDATE: I am reliably informed that this will stay free until Tuesday. Still time to grab a free copy.
