Yesterday I took a day off work to join the family at the BFI for a special screening of the next Doctor Who episode, Vincent and the Doctor, written by Richard Curtis. It was a free family event and the BBC/BFI had laid on a workshop and exhibition to keep everyone entertained.
There were costumes from recent episodes, including the vampire queen and the Silurians, a design your own monster competition and some of the props from the Vincent episode.
Oh, and here are Ethan and Martha in the TARDIS with the Doctor and Amy courtesy of some green screen trickery.
I won't post any spoilers about the episode itself. It does feature Vincent van Gogh but then you'll know that already. I will say that I enjoyed the beginning, thought it was only average as it went on and then Curtis pulls out a fantastic ending that had me blubbing like a big girl.
After the screening, Richard Curtis and Karen Gillan came on stage along with the director and one of the executive producers. They answered questions from the kids in the audience and carefully avoided any major revelations about future episodes. All we did learn was that horses and helmets may be involved and that the finale will be a two-parter. Oh and that Steven Moffat is currently writing the Christmas special.
Martha got to meet Karen briefly and had her photo signed, as you can see above. So all in all a jolly good day out.
You can see the Vincent and the Doctor episode on Saturday night. It comes highly recommended.
